Nicki Minaj Called Taylor Swift to Talk Through Twitter Feud: "It's Over, Guys
Feud squashed, Barbz and Swifties — time to move on. Taylor Swift apologized via Twitter on Thursday, July 23, for lashing out against a perceived diss from Nicki Minaj, and as it turns out, social media wasn't the only way they mended fences.
During a Friday appearance on Good Morning America, Minaj, who made headlines this week when she fumed over her "Anaconda" video being passed over for a Video of the Year VMA nomination, said she and Swift, 25, aired their differences in a phone call after the "Bad Blood" singer's Twitter mea culpa. "She was super, super sweet and she apologized," Minaj, 32, confirmed. "She said, 'Look, I didn't understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it.' We're all good."
The feud is so over, Minaj said, that she'd even entertain the idea of a collaboration with Swift. "I'm sure we can [collaborate], because it takes a big person to do what Taylor did. I've been there. It was big of her to come out and say that," she revealed. "We spoke for a long time, we were cracking up on the phone, and it's over, guys. I would love to work with her."
Swift previously took issue with Minaj tweeting that the 2015 VMA nominations "celebrate women with very slim bodies."
"I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki," the "Style" performer tweeted two days after accusing Minaj of pitting women against each other.
On GMA, Minaj said she still takes offense to her lack of a Video of the Year nomination - on merit alone. "'Anaconda' had such a cultural impact . . . so 'Anaconda' should've been nominated. I do think if it was one of the 'pop girls,' it would have had many nominations for it," Minaj told GMA's Lara Spencer before performing the ABC show's concert in Central Park. "I got two nominations for 'Anaconda' — for Female and Hip Hop — but it should have been for the Year. That’s all."
Minaj further implored the music industry and its artists to build each other up and appreciate their differences. "We just have to have both images for girls. We can't only have one type of body being glorified, because it just makes girls even more insecure than we already are,” the voluptuous singer continued.
This week's social media exchange between the women inspired everyone from Ed Sheeran to Bruno Mars to Kim Kardashian to react, but no response was more shocking than that of Katy Perry, who accused frenemy Swift of being someone who "unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman." (Minaj had favorited Perry's tweet moments after it was posted, and before replying to Swift's public apology.)
